Watch. Do. Teach.
I’m a sucker for medical dramas. It all started with Doogie Howser MD and whether film, television or even podcasts, if someone is wearing a white coat and howling “stat!”—I’m in. It’s those shows (not medical school) where I learned the notion of: watch one, do one, teach one.So I couldn't help match that example to our feast day weekend, August 27–29!
WATCH
Friday, Aug. 27, we’ll gather to watch the stories of four St. Monica parishioners just like you in the premiere of On the Journey…Sunday to Sunday, beginning in the afternoon with food trucks and music by our school and parish. Enjoy a brand new trailer, HERE.
DO
Then on Saturday, it’s your turn to do—with outreach opportunities beyond our 5.3-acre block, serving, supporting, and sustain organizations throughout our city, ending with happy hour refreshments for the entire family.
TEACH
Sunday, Aug. 29, we teach with recognition and gratitude. Mass will celebrate the feast day and honor and thank the hundreds of volunteers that serve this community. Our Volunteer Appreciation presentation will also recognize eight recipients of the David Hines Volunteer of the year award. After Mass, all are invited to a family picnic on California Avenue with lunch provided by St. Joseph’s Center Culinary Program. In the afternoon, our bereavement ministry will offer a pandemic Memorial & Commemoration where those who have lost loved ones—including non-COVID cases—can join in prayer and plant a flower in our spirituality center garden.
Throughout Sunday, Fr. David Ayotte will launch and introduce several new programs offered in a re-launch of the Spirituality Center. Take a tour and learn about spiritual direction, the spiritual exercises of Ignatius, or even how you can train to be a spiritual director yourself.
On behalf of Msgr. Lloyd Torgerson, clergy, staff, faculty, and students of St. Monica—you are invited and most welcome. Next weekend is for you—we can’t wait to see you there! Learn more at stmonica.net/feast.
