Our Three Cross
In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, there are only a handful of Catholic parish high schools. And St. Monica is unique in that we offer every grade from Transitional Kindergarten through grade 12. This means in one 4.3-acre block, an entire academic career can take place seamlessly, with consistency and an enduring family of parents, faculty, staff, and clergy.
Likewise, an entire sacramental journey from baptism to anointing can be experienced in that same block—and I'm excited that Leland will be making his first Reconciliation and Eucharist this week (though not so excited he'll be confessing to my boss).
That's why we call our parish a community. And that's why our logo has three crosses: one for the elementary schools, one for the high school, and one for the parish. Next time you're in the church, walk up to the font or the ambo and study the mosaic motif, which is comprised of three colors: maroon, navy, and forest green. It's a subtle but moving fact that these are the colors reflected in the individual logos representing each of the three entities.
Our pastor reflects on how the Trinity is connected by love. It's obvious that our schools and parish share that same connection. SMASH is a celebration of that love and connection—serving, supporting, and sustaining all those who chose St. Monica as an important community in their life. This coming Saturday, June 5—tap into that love and allow it to grow by joining onsite or online. Be the light!
