A Peek Behind the Curtain
Leland went on his first international trip over the Christmas break. He finished all seven of the Harry Potter books, and so what better place to go than London?!? It was a whirlwind with landmarks, afternoon tea, theater, and a trip outside London to Leavesden where the Harry Potter film series made its home for nearly ten years. I was expecting a theme park or quick exhibit and scoffed when we were instructed to allow three hours. However, these are the actual sets, props, costumes, scripts, models, and sketches—all created by talented people.
I have always been fascinated with what's behind the curtain, in the kitchen, or on the assembly line. Leland was excited to be immersed in the actual environment of his literary heroes. I was beside myself to witness how thousands have shared their talent and gifts to create this story of a boy overcoming the darkness of this world and being a light for others.
This weekend's Gospel is the same: Jesus knows his earthly work cannot be done by himself. So he calls on others: disciples. On any given Sunday at St. Monica, dozens of people share their gifts to bring the Eucharist, music, hospitality, fellowship, and opportunities to serve, all led by our pastor. But just like Jesus—Msgr. Torgerson can't do it alone. The engine that drives our mission is our staff—who, in their vocation, have answered the call to serve you. Your encouragement and support keep us committed to forming loving disciples who will transform the world.
If you ever want the studio tour, I'm happy to take you. You won't need three hours.
